Here is a picture of my drive shaft and packing nut. I have a steady stream of water comming in the boat. To me it looks like the nut won't tighten much more! Is it time to just replace the packing? What are all of your thoughts?

I dont know about the packing nut. But I would replace the shaft packing. I just did this, and the leak went from a stream to a couple of drops.

Change your packing.

Replace the packing, it's fairly easy and cheap to DIY.

Put in the Gortex though, the stock wax cord bites IMHO.

Thanks for the input. I changed it out and the old packing was definitely shot. Not a hard project to do, thanks to the threads already written on how to do it.
