Once you go PP you never go back.
I've driven both and putting PP on later this year.
Never even considered the cruise control.
Just my thoughts.
you have an '07 with EZ cruise?

I have an 06 without, but test drove the 07 vdrive with. If I had never driven or ridden behind PP, I'd probably accept the EZ cruise as sliced bread.
Now, we do a good bit of wakeboarding and kneeboarding.
So the ability to lock in different riders is a plus for us due to the huge variation in speeds between weights and skill.
You do surfing and most riders are going to be within the same small speed range (8-11 right?) so you may not need all the bells and whistles (or the extra $500 price tag) to move to PP.
I have heard that the new 2007 drive by wire systems play havoc with the PP, causing irritating RPM surges.
My boat speeds are all over the place. I usually start off the day slalom skiing, then wakeboarding and after filling up the ballast, wakesurfing.
I usually only hit the button on perfect pass to slow it down or speed it up. I never have it programed to individual people.
Just curious if the EZ cruise holds speed as constant as PP. If it does, I'd put the money into Gravity 3 system
MasterCraft folks seem to like the standard speed controls that come with their boats

EZ-Cruise is PP "lite" - it is the RPM only version of PP - good for skiing, lousy for wakeboarding or surfing. Not accurate at low speeds where RPM does not remain steady.
You can always move yours

Ed,
I have an 06 with PP. My understanding is that the EZ cruise is set on RPM, not speed. So it will not maintain speed when making a turn, for example. Also, you have to manually engage it - it will not take over automatically like PP does.
I love PP. It is an absolute marriage saver and guarantees me a consistent pull when I take my turn behind the boat. My wife hates to drive when there are other boats out on the lake but with the PP, all she has to worry about is steering so she loves it as well.
And I do use the programmable feature. I have it set for me, my wife, and my 10 yr old son as we all wakeboard at different speeds. I also have it set for tubing and for surfing. This is great as I do not have to remember all these different speeds for different things.
However, as you know, the user interface is absolutely horrible.
Hope that helps.

I opted for the PP, as it is known as the marriage saver. When we ordered our boat I looked over at my wive when the PP option came up, she gave me a dirty look and said there was no way were ordering our boat without.
My buddy has a 06 with the Moomba cruise control. As the others have mentioned, not programable, won't hold speed in the turns, and requires you to return to Neutral after pulling back on the throttle before you can accelerate again. I think PP is worth the extra ching, you'll get it back when you trade in your boat, even before a stereo upgrade.
With all this said I need some help with my PP. I tried to calibrate it this past weekend and only managed to mess it up more. The analog speedo is on with the set point, but now the PP speedo is almost 4mph off. I was using my GPS the whole time to set.

Ed,
If you are buying a 2007 you have another option...
I got the 2007 without PP. The EZ Cruise system, to me, had all the faults that everyone else mentioned here.
When I took the dredded leap to upgrade to PP, I was pleasantly suprised to find that you can order the PP module customized to match moomba gauges directly from PP in canada. The other suprise is that SC pre-harnessed all 2007s for simple 2 minute PP installation. I am not a mechanic, but I just ordered the PP direct for $900. Installed the guage, the module, disconnected the EZ Cruise harness, connected the PP harness, and installed one bypass plug next to the engine.
I think this cost is less than getting the factory PP option.
Anyway, just another option for you to consider, this way you can try EZ Cruise to see if it suits your needs. Worked fine for slalom for me, not so good for wakeboarding or wake surfing.
Hope this helps.
Jay, great info!
One question - where did you find it for $900.00
plug and play - I like that idea.
Thanks much

Ed,
My dealer happened to be installing PP in a 2004 Moomba when I stopped by to inquire about getting in my boat. When I commented on how much he had to tear apart the boat and how long it must be taking, he said yah, but on your boat it will take 30 minutes tops and all the harnesses are all ready present.
So I go home look at the perfectpass.com and find reference to their throttle by wire systems, but no different pricing or ordering options. Called them at (902) 468-2150.
They told me that with 2007 Moomba Throttle-by-wire they had a plug and play module and a by-pass plug to short out the factory cruise system.
I said great thanks, thinking that they only sold to dealers. Then the guy asked if I was ready to place an order, I said sure and he quoted $918.00 for standard FedEx ground or $928.00 for next day by 9am. Needless to say I had it installed before noon the next day.

Maybe because there is not as much "stuff" (3 servos, mounting brackets, cables, etc, etc) the price for Moombas is lower than normal.
Cool.
Plus, Ed - you can sell the extra Speedo on eBay.
;)

I have an extra 2003 Moomba speedometer in a misc parts box in my garage.
Anyone want it for free?

I put perfect pass into my 05 LSV and was really easy. I didnt have to tear anything out really. So even the Pre 06 boats are a couple of hour job from start to finish. I like the idea of the older boats only having 1 servo to worry about failing in the system.

that looks like a pretty neat little gadget. Considering that I calibrate my perfect pass with a hand held gps I would imagine that may be the wave of the future if they get any bugs worked out.
