do you need an additional amp for tower speakers or can the 4 channel Kicker amp handle the load?

I like having a differnt amp for the tower. One of the main reasons is that i can have the fade to the tower when riding and balance it back out when i am just sitting. This way the person in the water can hear the music without blasting the eardrums of the people in the boat.

I'd probably get another amp if you want to power them sufficiently.
I'm noticing a trend here.
Everytime I ask a question about options, it ends up costing me another $1000

Ed,
My 06 had all 6 cockpit speakers wired to the stereo amp and my tower speakers were wired to the amp.
Not sure on the 08's since they switched amp/speaker suppliers..
I have since added an additional amp for my 4 rear cockpit speakers and a sub..
But actually, mine is running 4 tower speakers off a two channel amp..
If you are ordering it with tower speakers and that amp, it will be wired up just fine for you, unless you get the urge for music 70' back and completely clear...
Oh, Happy Belated Birthday too. and congrats on the gift. hope the 5 Gal gas can was full! :)

oh yeah, as to the posts above regarding volume in the boat and behind the boat, like many on here, I added the clarion eq/crossover and can fade between the cockpit and tower. Wife likes much better so that I can hear behind boat, but is not blaring iin her ears in the boat.
I ride with a couple of guys with Mastercrafts and both have awesome JL systems. I have finally gotten one to play with the fade to cut back on the cockpit. I like loud music... but there is a limit.

Ed,
If we did not spend you're money for you then we would have to spend our own money. Now who would want that:D
yes, and by the time I get my boat, I'm gonna have saved you guys so much money, someone needs to come down here and take me out for beer and chicken wings.
and for the record, it's ok to eat chicken wings in my boat

You definately want another amp Ed! Not just to spend your money, but to make it work right. You'll also want to add PAC LC-1 (http://www.pac-audio.com/products/productsCatagory.asp?mmSearch=Amplifier%20Level%20 Controllers) switches to fade off the cabin or tower speakers independently of each other. MOre money but might as well do it right while your at it! :D

Ed,
I have one 4 channel amp driving the six pairs of speakers in the boat and one pair on the tower. Works just fine. The amp has to be 2 ohm stable though.

How many speakers total? 6 in the boat and 2 on the tower? If so you could run 2 ohms on each channel to power all 8 speakers. Just put the tower and bow speakers on the front two channels and the other 4 on the rear channels then you'll have the abillity to fade front and back. Like mentioned you can get a pac controller or eq for better control if youd like.

That's exactly how I have mine set up.

Ed--
I am running a Kicker MX750.5 amp for the cabin speakers and a Kicker MX 350.4 amp for the tower speakers. I highly recommend two amps.

Two amps with out a doubt... but I'm a big fan of having the perfect amount of power specifically given to each speaker. that's why I run 3 amps. the EQ such as the one mentioned above or the one through wet sounds is a great idea! that way you can independently control the tower speakers, sub, and cabin speakers all by a turn of a knob.

8 speakers, you need 4 amps. Now spend some money.
Thanks for all the help. I've made my decision....
I'm gonna hang two transistor radios (with antenna) to the tower and have them tuned to the same radio station so I have stereo.

Ed-
What if the batteries rust, leaks, and drips all over the carper. See if you can get solar power. I think radio shack has them. I found this for you. Look it even has tower lights for you. What do you think. We can even try to get a group buy together. LOL

Not to hijack the thread but i had the same questions about one amp two amps etc.
Could the 6 channel JL accomplish all of the above, front, cabin, towers and sub? or would two four channel amps be more appropriate

You could do it but youd probley be better off with multiple amps. I have 6 interior, 4 tower and 2 12" subs and run 3 amps, 2 4 channel, a 2 channel and an EQ. This gives me the best control over everything and if an amp overheats (hasnt happend yet) or just blows up im not stuck without tunes.

Oh and of course an extra battery is allways good, system or not. I have 3 batteries, never have to worry about the boat starting plus im getting better voltage to my amps when the engine isnt running.
Stacy, I am getting the appearance package - with the docking lights.
Pop-up cleats alone are $395, appearance package with cleats, docking lights and ss rubrail is $795...so since i'm upgrading boats, might as well upgrade options too.

ed, good call, i love my pop up cleats and the docking lights come in handy at night, and since you don't dock the boat or do the Floatilia thing, then the ss rubrail will look sharp.:D
and now my wife just called the dealer to add on a depth guage! :)
Are we all nuts or what? who in their right mind spends $40K on a fricken boat??????

I run three amps on my set up one for sub, one for tower, and one for cockpit. I have three pac lc-1 controllers of course one for every amp this way i can blast the tower speakers and still talk to the other passengers in the boat without having to scream.
