MrsDaze since we have been emailing about running and then Ed started talking about the marathon, I thought maybe we could post how our training is going here.

I am currently training for my first 10k, Oct 25. It is called the Tricker Trek. :) I run and bike with my two dogs and I run very slowly. Today is a rest day. Tomorrow is a bike day. I am supposed to run 4 miles Saturday. I will let you know how that goes.

Way to go Mrs.Z! I did 2 miles yesterday and strength training. I have a long way to go to even do a 10K, but I'm having fun.

The "cross training" refers to being out on your boat!!

I am with you man! Besides skiing (and sufing and wakeboarding) I was also going to include biking. Maybe even swimming, but I would have to do 5 million laps in our pool. I might get dizzy.

Thanks for the links I will look at them later when I have a few minutes.

MrsDaze, good job to you too! I did 2 miles plus strength on Wednesday. I think we are off a day from each other. I changed that schedule so my long run is on Saturday (the day of the 10k).

Ed - What is "flaming?" - Deerfield

Mrs Z and Mrs Daze - Keep up the good work! Please keep us posted on your progress. - Deerfield

Mrs Z - I recommend you join a Masters program for swimming. The closest to you looks like Emerald Coast Masters that trains at Gulf Coast Community College. If you are just starting out, don't let that stand in the way. It's organized training for all ability levels on a scheduled basis with a great group of people. - Deerfield

Here is a link to Hal Higdon's Novice 10k training program that I am using.
http://www.halhigdon.com/10ktraining/10knovice.htm

I am currently on week 3. I shifted the schedule over a day so my long run is Saturday instead of Sunday. So yesterday I was supposed to run 4 miles. I went four miles but I did not come any where near running the entire way! It was really hot and sunny and did me in. I only ran 2.5 miles then I walked 3/4 of a mile. I tried to run again thinking surely I can just run 3/4 mile. I only made it another .25 then I walked the rest of the way. So, I guess I am on week 3 again. Adding half a mile a week may be a little ambitious for me. I will keep trying though.

Tomorrow is 2.5 mile run maybe I can get back in the groove of the thing.

Deerfield, thank you for sending me the info on swimming. I am not sure about having the time for that commitment on my part at this time though. The kids keeps me pretty busy with their agenda. I squeeze the running in with them. Eliza rides her bike with me and we usually go when we are waiting for Zachary to get home from school. :)

Ok, I did my three miles today (still on the treadmill). I will try to make it outside this week:). It's funny, my treadmill is in the garage and I was so "out there zoning" I didn't realize my neighbor had come in. I screamed when I saw her(but luckily didn't fall). She felt so bad. Stacy and Lainey both came running out. At least I know they can hear me out there if I scream. The point of the story is that my neighbor had just finished on her treadmill and wanted to know if I wanted to run with her a couple times a week. I think between Ginny & I starting to encourage each other, then Ed starting a marathon goal and now my neighbor, I'm meant to start running more.

Awesome Laurie! The good thing is it IS flat her in FL so those hills are not so bad. Until we try an run somewhere else! Also I think it would be less boring. I think that would be the most difficult thing about running on a treadmill (boredom).

Let me know when you venture outside. Also do you have a schedule you are using? I think it helps to have it written down. I used the one I told you about and used it to make my own to print out an actual calendar. It helps me stay motivated. It also helps me to NOT try to run too often. I was running too many times in the week and was starting to have sore knees.

I think the boredom part is what keeps me from going as far. So far the program you gave me has been very motivating! Now the question is how well I'll do running with someone else. I haven't done that since college!

Hey, Mrs. Z and Mrs. Daze!!!

Okay, Mrs. Daze! I am impressed you ran 2 miles and are still able to type about it?!?!?! I am SO OUT OF SHAPE, that you'd be attending my funeral if I ran 2 miles! I started running a year ago in the spring. I would do a mile about 8 pm when the kids were in bed, dishes done, it was cooler, etc. Then the time change came and it was too dark at that time and I could never work it in at other times. Then in November, I fell at church and hurt my ankle. (It still bothers me today) I never started up again in the spring. I wish I could have because I was starting to almost not hate it. :) I need to do something for fitness and to relieve stress.

Sorry I have not been on the board in a long time. Kaneboats was out of town last week so I barely had time to go to the bathroom.
School stuff is well underway which means more work for me. The washer broke the day he left so you know what my laundry room looks like right now? AHHH! He was able to fix it this morning, so I just need to keep it moving.
Looking forward to seeing you all in a couple of weeks. Take care, until then...

Mrs. Z, Mrs. Daze and Ed G:

Are you all in training for a marathon? OMG! I am impressed. You might shame me into getting off my fat @#$! You train for over a year for a 10K? Which one?

Like I said earlier, I need to do something. My ankle is my only fear well besides the pain of running, etc. : )
I notice Mrs. Z said you run slow. I run slow too. I don't run with anyone. Once I ran with the oldest Kaneboats child and she told me I was sprinting. That's when I started running slower and I did and liked it much better.

Maybe if I had to report to you guys I would actually stick with it. Where do you all run? I can circle my "block" twice and it's a mile. I liked that because it is hard to drive somewhere, run and drive back because that always takes more time then I have. No $$ for a gym membership.

Good luck. See you soon.

Mrs. Kane, I also run slow!! Part of the fun of this is that we will all have a support system to keep us on track.

Have any of you tried http://www.mapmyrun.com/. I had a route I was thinking about trying but haven't had a chance to drive it to see the distance. I created the route on this site and it's 3.4 miles. Kind of cool!

Mrs. Kane,That is one thing that is good about running. Out the door and back. No driving is required. Plus others can go with you. Eliza rides her bike with me many days. She makes fun of me for running so slow, but that is OK.

Mrs. Kane, Most people don’t train for a year for a 10K race, but I may very well need to! I am currently in training for a 10K to be held right before Halloween. It seemed like a long way away but now it seems like tomorrow! When I started that Mrs. Daze also got interested and she likes the program I started so she is also doing it. Though she has not found a 10K to commit to yet. We are not on the same week but we are close. Then after we started this Ed started posting about this crazy Marathon thing! What the heck is going on here? Jump on board!

In a previous post Ed was talking about running slow in the marathon...10 to 11 minute miles! That made me laugh cause that kind of time is my eventual goal.

My Results:
I am off today for multiple dentist appointments so I ran this morning. It was SO nice. Usually I can only run in the AM on weekends. Today was 2.5 miles and it felt really good. I ran (just) below 12 minute miles for all three laps! Yay.

Mrs.Daze

And we still wake surf too (and wakeboard and ski)! This just gives us another reason to stay connected as our northern neighbors put their boats away for the season.

MrsZ

Mrs. Daze, Are you rubbing in the fact that we dont have heaters in our boats?

I posted my results for today. Anyone else running this week?

Mrs.Daze

Only had 2 beers!

Good hydration!

You do get the benefit of hill workouts in your area. A friend of mine just did an 80+ mile bike ride in the Clermont area this past weekend. She is incedibly fit but I think the sauna-like temps and hills gave her a run for her money!

MrsDaze, Thanks for the link, that looks cool. I need info about where all the mean dogs are though. Did you see that there?

Ha! Missed that part. That would really be a helpful resource!

MrsZ

Ooh Ooh I have to tell you. I was suposed to bike today but my tire needs to be replaced. I could not even blow it up! Eliza was ready for a bike ride and the dogs were ready too so I decided to run a short one.

I ran two miles.
Lap 1 - 1 mi - 12.09 min
Lap 2 - 1 mi - 10.41 min !!!

Dont laugh but that 10.41 is really incredible for me. And the 12 min includes two poops and a pee....For the dogs, not me or Eliza! :D

Speedy is right, and the second mile was better than the first! You crack me up.

I did a 2.5 mile run/walk with my neighbor tonight. It was a good workout but I didn't run for as long as when I'm on the treadmill. I'm on week two, Tuesday.

Ed, did you walk tonight? How are those arm curls coming along?

MrsZ

I have to have my music, that's for sure. If the Ipod dies on me my workout is over! I mostly do the treadmill because the time I have to run is usually when its dark out.

MrsZ, I did get tired quicker on the road. Perhaps our speed was faster than on the treadmill. I guess I'm not as far along as I thought. Better for the soul to be out in nature though! As for the heat, it beats the garage! My treadmill is in the garage so it is like an oven most of the time. I have a fan blowing on me and open the garage doors if it's not too late or early in the AM.

Good job Ed! You'll probably be leaving me in the dust next week.

Ed, it's the Publix distance classic. Is this the same race you were talking about fo 2010?

"Wonder why Bank of America got out?"

Ed - Let me speculate about the change. Bank of America recently purchased Chicago-based LaSalle Bank. For more than ten years LaSalle had been the lead sponsor of the Chicago marathon. In that time, I believe the Chicago marathon grew to become one of the largest in the world. With its acquisition of LaSalle, Bank of America gained ownership of the Chicago marathon. It's a huge marketing opportunity. It's also expensive. In so doing, Bank of America may have decided to withdraw from other events, including the marathon in Florida. I don't have any first hand information on the Florida event. This is just my guess. - Deerfield

Mrs.Daze

Publix does a good job sponsoring the race!

Ginny, I'm for sure doing the 5K. I'd really like to do the 15K though:)

Due to the flat course, the weather and some other factors the Chicago marathon is targetted by world class runners as a place to break the marathon record. Just ask Paula Radcliff!

OK, I just finished reading all the posts here. I'm gonna sick my wife on you for motivation and training advice. I think what all of you are doing is awsum! I'm starting to wish I was a Floridian instead of a Holidayinn! I just started running again after a few months due to a broken toe believe it or not. Man I pack on the weight fast when I stop for a while. It's the bordem of course. back years ago when I smoked it was the same thing, bordem.

Here is a picture of Renee a couple years ago after winning a small mini Tri in Wisconsin. After spraining her back last fall water skiing she has not been able to get back to training, but I think she'll start again soon or end up killing me to get over the frusturation:)

Mrs. Z,

Ok first let me plan my alibi, kill sled and then I'll be on my way. Got room for three kids and a dog. I'm just minding my own business reading the threads (It's the only way I know what sled is up to) and then I have to see embarrasing pics of myself posted on the site. AND there NOT SMALL either. Thank god I waxed and shaved!!! And now I'm being called out.

I'd love to run again. My most favorite sport of all time. I've been running since I was 12, but I'm not an expert. However if you need motivation, there are tricks I used to do to help. One, always pick a person during the race as a pacer. Stay with that person and gradually pick up your pace until you've reached them and once you have passed them pick out another target. Always keep your head up. Never stare at the ground. This slows you down. Make sure you keep your knees up high when going up hill and use your arms. Also make sure you open your stride when your going down hill. Let the hill take you down. Never cross your arms while you are running. If you find you are doing this, use weights in your hands. Believe me, 5 miles with weights in each hand will stop you from crossing your arms. There are many different types of workouts and exercises to help with all sorts of areas. For example, if you are having problems with going up hills, do the "Sun God Worshipers", that's what I call them. You can do these in your back yard. Arms start straight up going outward down your sides then forward and back up again as you do forward lunges across the yard. Be careful not to extend your knee past your foot as you are doing the lunges. For speed, I recommend lots of interval training. At least 4 1/4 mile full out sprints during the workout. Jog or walk in between these sprints. They will help with breathing, speed and endurance. I could go on and on, but I do have to get the kids up and ready for school tomorrow. Sorry if I made this too long for everyone.

MrsZ
09-18-2008, 07:19 AM
Hey Lettlena, Sled's just proud of you. But what a surprise that must be to see yourself like that! Eeek! You look great, by the way and thanks for the tips. I really have no idea what I look like or what I may do wrong while jogging. I am just trying to put one foot on front of the other without falling on my face for now!

I know that I welcome any tips you have to contribute here. How is your back now?

Littlena
09-18-2008, 10:02 AM
My back. I'm looking for a replacement if that even exists. Actually, I just take each day as it comes. I actually have more hip pain now then back pain. My back gets sore from time to time, but my hip and back of the leg have constant pain. Each day just has a different level. Sitting really aggravates it. I just got an inversion table, and I used it regularly, however the top of my foot started hurting from the pull. So I'm going to start using a towel and putting it around my feet as I become bat woman.

Mrs.Daze
09-18-2008, 09:57 PM
Wow, what a co-incidence...that happened to one of my brothers.

My mom was giving birth on the back porch of the doc who was grilling chicken wings at the time. The doc didn't want to burn perfectly good chicken wings, so he reached down and pulled my brother out by the head with the chicken wing tongs.

That boy has never been right and his head is shaped real similar to a green pepper.

$600? Let me know what that is about. HH Abs is a lot of fun. Slim in 6 couldn't hold my interest but this one does. A co-worker of mine just sent in her success story to hh abs (she's lost 90+ lbs), and they picked her story so she's flying out to CA at the end of the month for the new imfomercial. Always keep your head up. Never stare at the ground. This slows you down.

hey, this is a bit of advise i needed. i have done some trail races this summer and looking down is vital to your life. my road pace has suffered horribly, and i had not thought that this may be part of what is slowing me down. i went 7 today just over 8 min pace. i still need to push down to my goal pace of 7:30. if i break the trail habits, and fully recover from the trail damage, i will.

i have a half marathon next week that i hope to make under 1:40. the other goal is to catch my family who will be running the 5k that starts a hour after the half, the course and finish line are the same!

then we will be riding in the afternoon, looking forward to a ride in tampa in 2010!

OK here is my running update!
I ran 1.5 miles (again trying to get a torn hamstring back!!!!!! ) And MrsZ is standing behind me saying "excuses, excuses", but I did put the shoes on and ran 1.5 miles. OK MrsZ is behind me again and said Good job! So I guess my favorite fan is happy with me!!! I then ran into the back yard and hit the pool for a few laps. Then I had the boy (the real Z) go fetch me a beer, while I watched MrsZ cook a great dinner over the Weber!!! Yeah, it is good, maybe it will get even better!!!

Deerfield, Mountian. Back in my fit younger days was die hard Alpine skiier, skiing about 180 days a season. As a kid our spring break was in Banff at a race camp. Have a couple really good friends who are former National Team members, 2 have Olympic medals to there name. Best ranking was 23rd in the country in Super G. Slalom and GS points in around 60 - 70 for those who understand FIS points system.

OK so it's sunday morning and the rest of you lucky stiffs are out on your boats, except ED and I but for 2 different reasons:) So I get up a 6am and after some fruit for a starter and some warm up, I get out for my run. Met my goal of 5+ miles. Not a speed race mind you, about an hour, but that is the farthest I have run since I was ski racing.

So end of story, I did it, so anyone can!

Great job Sled. You make it sound so easy! I miss the snow skiing days. When you brought up your skiing buddies it reminded me of two skiiers I hadn't thought about in years, Phil & Steve Mahre. They were twin brothers and Olympic medalists. They were big names when I was in high school.

Today was three miles. One Dog. No kids. Eliza got a nose bleed right when we were fixin to go out so she stayed home. She's fine.

And then I ate like a horse tonight. I could not stop eating! I may weigh 200 pounds tomorrow! Does this normally happen when one runs?

Sled, you DO make it sound WAY easier that it really is! Maybe cause you are homesick?

Kaneboats, you go!

Mrs Daze, you said you went running with Dakota. How was it?

Mrs. Daze, while I was part of the Crazy Canuck Culture and have skied with and spent time with all the original 4 crazy canucks, in fact my home club was originally owned by Dave Irwins family, and Dave and myself are from the same hometown. I believe the Mahre brothers were the most amazing duo to come out of North America to date. Minus Body Miller of late, no North American has been as dominent as the Mahre brothers in discipline racing (slalom and GS) since them.

There continued attack as Pro Skiers after they left the US National team was equally amazing and kept the Europeans out of the winners circle for a long time. There was only one other guy considered to be even in there league (again I guy I knew well and skied with for years), but he left the National team after killing on the NOR AMS because he refused to take the running test that was implemented in the late 70's to be part of the National Program. He is mentioned by name in Ken Reads book of who's who in ski racing in the Crazy Canuck days. Remember Steve Podborski a Crazy Canuck was the only North American to ever win an Overall World Cup title in Downhill in a mens event, so those days were very productive for skiing in this part of the world.

Deerfield,

Steve, Ken, Dave I, and Dave M, were all before my time, but I have skied with them all and occasion have been to the same dinners as they have. I have hung out with Lisa Savajarvi and Karen Stemmel quite a bit and have skied with them at home and in the mountians.

"Ok Ed, I know you worked out your liver this weekend, how about your heart and lungs?"

Mrs Daze, I'm following the schedule I posted on the other thread. I'm just not into posting daily results - especially at the level I'm presently at.

Things will change when I start running double digits on Saturdays, but that will be a while.

I'm taking things very slowly. I have hurt myself a few times by being impatient and doing to much too soon.

I'm a great coach and I'm also my worst student.

Any 26 year old kid out there who can run 12 miles at an 8 minute/pace want to run a sub three marathon?
Good deal. Just making sure you were in on this. Mrs.Z & I had started letting each other know our workouts to keep each other motivated and accountable. It's really helped me.

ok, i am not a 26 year old kid, but i can run a half at under 8min pace. i have not done a marathon yet, i thought that my first would be good to be under 4hrs, and 3hrs is 7min pace. now, that is a stretch, if you can get me there, i will take it!

Good for you, you swashbucklin' lass, you! I'm thinking about doing a 5k just to show myself how out of shape I am. Once upon a time I was an athlete. I started smoking when that was over and quit when I turned 35 (7 years ago). Vasectomy? Compared to you I'm a chicken $hit. I have the 6 kids to prove I haven't had one. Getting the kids moving around here is like pulling molars though. I'm out of breath from yelling all the time. I haven't actually quit smoking though: I have a decent cigar one day a year on Memorial Day weekend with Mrs. Kane's uncle.

Actually, Sled, I made myself a promise that when I turned 30 I'd quit. So when I turned 35 I really meant it-- and that time I did. Let's see at about 3.65 a pack for 365 days a year for that 5 years it cost me about 152 days off my life, right?

Sled491
09-25-2008, 11:29 PM
I don't know about all this math. I know that all the money I was supposed to save by not smoking never materialized. My lungs didn't stop hurting for a couple years. Now when I go to Vegas it's all I can do not to light one up. But I think if I started again I'd hack a lung out.

Side note. With my longer run on the weekend it has been easier to speed up my shorter mid week runs.

Sled491
10-15-2008, 08:33 PM
Well I know Iron mans have a cut off per leg and overall. But most small races you just run the risk of no one being there if you take too long:)

Running most nights still, but was home this weekend so for my 3 days home no time to run, but back in Phoenix again and back at it. About 3 miles a night with my big run coming sunday morning. Not up to six or better by any means, way to go G!

I'm still running Ginny! Doing a little better each time. I actually did my run this morning at 4:45 cause I didn't think I'd have time tonight. I ended up having a little time this evening after all so I spent it jumping on the trampoline with Delainey!

Also, I believe several people on this board probably think I am ignoring them. I changed my email settings and was able to get notifications to other email addresses but when I changed it back to our home email it still doesn't work. So I never know when someone replies to something I posted? I put it up on the IT post but it was ignored and no explanations were ever offered. I mean for over a year we got emailed the replies to our posts and then they just stopped cold????? Why would something like this just stop, we have NOT changed anything on our IT system here at home. But I will go on the boards and notice that someone wrote to me but it was a week ago and I didn't reply because I never know!

Thanks for the advice Ed. I have worked up to 6.6 miles so far. Your are right about the mental part I think. But I notice that once I start walking I just can NOT run again more than 1/4 mile or so. Once I walk I am pretty much done with the running. So what I started doing is when I really really want to stop and walk, I just really s...l...o...w down. I am still doing jogging movements but it is slow. Then I can speed back up again after a little rest.

I will have to practice the running/walking think you have planned. I am not sure how that would work for me...

Anybody using the Nike+Ipod tool for running? Its a chip that goes in your shoe and you have a receiver on your Ipod.. Pretty neat. Wife and I got one a little over a week ago.. it tracks pace, distance, time, and you can set goals for your run (like distance, time, calories, etc).
Once you sync up your Ipod it loads the info to a Nike site you can monitor you runs on and it keeps a running total..
It is really helping me push myself.. I don't wanna load wimpy run!

You can also create groups on the Nike site... would be neat if several folks from here did that..

enjoy..

04OUTBACK
10-29-2008, 11:46 PM
Sled,
works with Nano's and Ipod Touch..
$29 for the sensors and you can get at Nike, Apple, or many running stores.
The chip specifically fits Nike + shoes, but you can get a $5 shoe lace clip thing to put them in..
But.... in my case.. here is how you turn $29 into $400..
Your wife asks about the Nike + setup because a cousin has one.
She orders her one and me one. Great.thanks..she bought it for me! COOl..
THe it comes in and I realize it does not work with my 80GB ipod...
so, next I go buy a 16gb Nano...then an armband, then we both get new nike shoes that the chip/sensor fits in.. so...$29 = $400....
Be careful.. But, it is encouraging me to run more, longer, better.. it is fun to come home and sync and look at the run on Nike's website.
Plus you can issue challenges, set up training plans (you can build a plan to train for 5K,10K, 1/2 Marathon, Marathon, etc..) It sets you up a plan of what to run each day... Pretty cool!

I have a Garmin 201 and MrsZ has the Garmin 305, and together they cost about 500 bucks. The good thing about them is you can use them for multiple sports like running, cycling and YES paddling!!! The Garmin Training software logs all of these events and you can put them on a map. And if you get lost you can use it as a GPS to get back home! If you are considering purchasing one of these you need to determine if you are going to be in the woods or out in the open. If you are in the woods you need to get the 305 as it has a much more sensitive receiver.

MrsZ
10-31-2008, 05:26 PM
The 305 batteries last even LESS than the 201. But the 305 receiver is much better for me. We live in "the woods" so where I run when I used the 201 I would get a lost signal almost constantly. Maybe I hold my arm different than M or the height difference between us makes a difference but I gave him my 201 and got the 305 for me. The 201 works ok for him! The only thing I don’t like about the 305 is the lame battery.

I like the little guy that lives in there too and comes out to run with me. But he beeps at me all the time.

i have a 201, fantastic device. i use a regular gps for hunting hiking, other outdoor things. the 201 is usually a bit off on the distances when i use it in races with accurate courses. i have not been as far off as ed, but in a couple half marathons, it was off by a max of .5 miles. i would still recommend it to any one.

i would like to try the gps with HRM. i guess that would be a good next step.

I felt like I was run over by a train. I was sore for the next few days. My sunday distance run had to be cancelled, and this after I found someone to run with.

Needless to say today I did the bike with some light weight training.

Any ideas on how to get back in the grove? Man I only took a couple days off, no different that usual.

Ed, thanks, I was afraid it was something like that. Although my preogression wasn't as aggressive as you stated I may have pushed it. I'll have to go back and check out your program.

Ed, the 305 DOES have a hr monitor. Perhaps that is why the battery lasts so much less time than the 201.

Happy Thanksgiving all. Dakota and I did our own "Turkey Trot" this morning. It was wonderful! The weather was perfect, beautiful. Everyone we saw while we were out seemed friendly and happy.

First time posting in here but I do other workouts besides running but the website listed is an excellent site to log your workouts, get medals (you have to buy them yourself) and have a group established. I never use my ski time as the duration is short but my basketball, mountain biking and motocross riding has gotten me 44% of the way to a platinum award which at my pace will take some years. The bronze, silver and gold medals are easily achievable and it it a place to log all your activities.

All right lets breath some life back into this one.

I was hurting myself so I slowed down and even took some time off. I decided my runners were worn out as well. Went to a place called "Road Runners Sports". They have a computer assisted foot reader, and use video and a treadmill to analyze your feet.

Man I have one ugly set up on my right side, it alsmost looks like a big "C" from my accident as a teenager. So I switched from a neutral type runner to a stability type. I've now run about 5 miles on them. Not sure they were worth the extra money, but so far no pain.

G you still at it? How about Mrs Daze? Summer is just around the corner:)

Still at it Sled. I wasn't very consistent over the holidays but started back up in January. I hope you see a big difference with your new shoes.

Yearround, if I was at that point I'd feel pretty proud of myself. I signed up for the Gasparilla 5K at the end of the month instead of the 15K because I'm not as far along as I'd hoped to be. I've got a lot of work to do before the 2010 race!

I somehow missed this post Zabooda. I wonder if this is the same program we did as kids in P.E.? I'll check this out later.

I am also still at it although I also had a little down time due to various excuses. I am just now back to where I was last November. Yearround, you rock doing 20-25 miles a week! You sound like my fast son with the 8 min mile…I am a little envious! OK, a lot!

Sled, shoes make a HUGE difference for me. My knees and feet hurt SO badly if I don’t wear the right shoes. I am really glad you got new ones.

Mrs Z, i tried running with my dog along time ago when i had one, he just did not work out. it is fun to see dogs that will get out and run with their people.

i keep telling the kids at church youth group to race me, fortunately, no one has taken me up, i know i could beat them all in anything over a mile, but some of those high schoolers could probably do me in a mile. i like to think i can hit a 6 for just one, but they haven't tried it yet.

My goodness, if I hit 8 for one I'm happy, never mind 6. I do agree though that at somepoint you need to add speed. Just adding distance keeps your muslces from really growing.

That is funny! We are always "babysitting" for Mike's friend's dog. I call him (Mike's firend) Hadley's Human. :)
