Howdy all!

I am currently using a Mazda B3000 SE truck for a tow vehicle. The towing capacity is ~3800 lbs.

I am thinking of upgrading to either a 4X4 Ranger or a Mazda B4000 4X4 (basically the same truck). Both have a towing capacity of about 5700 lbs.

Is a 5700 lb towing capacity enough for the Moomba Outback?

Any recommendations for similiar size trucks? Garage space is at a premium and I need to stick to a compact size truck.

Thanks in advance!

Ed

Hi,
How far are will you be towing and how frequently? We have a Mobius LSV which is a few hundred pounds heavier and have towed it with a Jeep Cherokee with a 5,000 lbs capacity.
If you make sure you get a trailer towing pkg. you should be fine.

I will tow the boat every weekend about 6 miles round trip maximum (to and from gas station).

Mazda B3000 sorta handles it. Can't get out of 2nd gear on hills and the boat will start the truck bouncing on uneven road surfaces.

I have a Dodge Durango and it is only rated @ 5000# and it tows the Outback just fine. I did add a transmission cooler just for peace of mind.

Your bouncing might be due to the hitch not being at the right height, I have heard it is worse w/ dual axle trailers

Ed,
My Dakota fits in the garage, and handles the Outback just fine. I've trailered it down to Cypress Gardens several times with no problem.
I would have added the transmission cooler if we had to keep gowing up to the Harris chain, but no need to with our lakes back to normal.
What do you say we take a day this summer to head down to Cypress Gardens after they re-open and do some skiing and watch their ski show? You can tie off to some tires just outside the lagoon and watch the show for free.
There's also a slalom course nearby.

Brian, your on! let's do it (you know what I mean, honey bun).

I'm sure the wife has to be driving again by this summer!
