Muffler removal, straight exhaust

2001 Mobius. I have a muffler leak and have read of all the problems other owners have had with the fiberglass mufflers. I'm considering the removal of the mufflers and replacing them with a straight exhaust tube. No leaks and it's simple.

I don't see any problems with getting water into the engine.

I'm not sure how loud it will be. Any feedback?

I don't think the engine performance will be affected. The long tube and exhaust below the water line should provide sufficient back pressure....?

Any advice is appreciated.

mufflers dont really provide much back pressure anyways and if you want performance you dont want back pressure. the straight exhaust will make cruising very loud tho

Makes me think of the big chrome pipes off drag boats. Once your boat is moving fast enough so that the exhaust outlets are above the water line I'll bet the droaning roar behind it would be mind numbing...

I think it's funny that someone is worried about exhaust noise when my daughters have the entire boat shaking to the rap crap coming out of the speakers. It might be good to know the engine is still running.....lol

Oh I'm on board with that sweet V8 sound - just think it would get old when you're surfing, boarding, etc. Would defeat the purpose of tower speakers.

I wish I could find a video clip of my old lowrider '69 chevy pickup I had in college for you guys. Sounded awesome but could be the reason I'm going deaf today. Built 350, headers to shorty turbos to 30" stainless megaphones that went from 2.5" to 5" openings out the back under the rollpan. I got compliments and complaints all the time including one really expensive one from the state patrol. He said he could hear me coming before he saw me.


That's why we have transom and driver remotes isn't it? Turn off the booty boppin stuff when they're all caught up in looking cool and crank up some Aerosmith or Van Halen. Then corrupt them with a little Linkin Park or Godsmack. hehehe

Berg, you are cracking me up! I had a '67 Chevy Nova with Hooker Headers and Cherry Bomb exhaust. The cool thing was to put a butterfly just past the headers so that you could pull a lever and have straight pipes!

I'm gonna have to hijack the Ipod and infect it with some Van Halen and Rush!

Yeah I knew I was out of the running for 'father of the year' when I was practicing tennis with my cute little 9yr old girl last summer and I noticed she's singing to herself word for word the lyrics of GodSmack "Straight out of line". Hmmm, wonder where she heard that?!


I had burned out glass packs on that truck with the megaphones for a few months but it literally sounded like a dragboat all the time. Could drive through parking lots and set off car alarms... Fun for a while but got old and driving on the freeway for more than 10 minutes was murder.

I can picture my kids driving a rod or classic of some sort when they're old enough. I'd much rather see them pull into the HS parking lot in an old chevelle with a raspy cam riding on some beefy BFG TA's than some punked out honda with a bunch of tin and plastic bolted onto it.
