Overkill? I was out on a holiday weekend in FL a few years ago and saw county police in boats, FL Fish & Wildlife patrol, state police and Coast Guard. Each one has a different focus. Some on fishing, some on drugs, some on general safety. Talk about tax dollars at work. Look at the stuff they spend on in FL:

I love a big center console boat. There is one on our local lake, think its about a 40 footer with 3 300 Merc on the back, guy pulls it with a semi. Boat and truck are completely "whited" out.

Florida has it much tougher as far as terrain/waterways. You guys have the ocean, intercoastal, canals, and marshland/swamps. It's justifies the equipment in your pics. In Texas we have the gulf and one biga$$ river. My guess is that that they went with highway patrol because of statewide jurisdiction instead of Parks & Wildlife (safety and fish/game) or Sheriffs Dept (limited jurisdiction).

that thing would be badass to drive, but it would suck knowing the guys you are pursuing are likely more heavily armed, especially with press releases showing what it is.. you know every bad guy out there with a boat just bought rpg's and more 50cals for their boats..
