We all need to remember that an engine running in boat and one in a car are in different situations. Cars can coast, and run 1500-2000 RPM average? Boats are basically always running "uphill" all the time, and running at higher RPM usually. Imagine if your car or truck drove up a steep hill all the time, how much more wear would be on the engine and its parts.

I know the loads are different but not so much so to require a 100 hr spark plug life. 100,000 miles on a car is about 3,333 hours on one set of plugs. I think some boat plugs could easily last 500 hours.

Those could be 7 year old plugs and it sounds like they may have never been removed.... A recipe for a frozen and subsequently broken plug during removal and then you would be wishing you spent the $50 and replaced them after 3 years.
