The Moderators are blasting them as quickly as possible when they come up. I also just saw Moomba's web admins are looking into it this morning.
We had a flurry of spam activity about this time a year ago as well. Tis the season...

I don't know the life of a spammer but I bet many of them have ADD and making it inconvenient to get their first post in would blow their mind.
